On his blog entry, Mateo compared Narrative
of the Life of Frederick Douglass: An American Slave to the movie Django
Unchained, and commented that the book didn’t offer much in terms of new truths
about slavery. Although I agree with this to a certain extent, my blog entry focused
on the point of view we get of slavery now, and how different it was back then.
I discussed whether we would all be the same as the slaveholders were if we
lived when slavery was legal, or if we would be as different as we say we
would. Will people in the future view the legal struggles we have now (ie: gay
rights) as we view the struggle for Civil Rights? The main similarity between our blog entries was the constant posing of questions to reflect on reading, although my questions were completely different to those Mateo asked.
